  • Overview

    Fellow will be working under the Workforce Development Department and will be assigned to a specific project within the organization. The AltaMed Health Fellowship is a stipend paid program that will provide the fellows with real-life dynamics of the workplace, with unique experiences that are not typically available to someone starting out in entry-level positions. Fellows will be structured to provide significant work experiences in AltaMed’s innovative and rapidly growing non-profit environment, focusing on their professional development and providing an opportunity to build long lasting relationship with a network of seasoned professionals, while participating in community events outreach and advocacy. 


    Under the guidance of the Supervisor of Academic Partnerships, the fellow will support the coordination of the AHEC Scholars Program. The AHEC Scholars program enables high-potential students in the health professions to explore primary care with an emphasis on community health and interdisciplinary practice in medically underserved communities. The fellow will coordinate the AHEC Scholars program in which health professions students representing multiple disciplines, gain knowledge and experience in underserved settings. The fellow will support relationships with academic institutions to create clinical and non-clinical experiential learning opportunities for AHEC scholars. The fellow will support the coordination of program evaluation. 


    The benefits from participating in the program:

    • A maximum living allowance in the amount of $15,000 (taxable) Stipend paid biweekly.
    • Fellowship requires a minimum of 1,000 hours that must be completed in 8 months from the start day.
    • Upon successful performance and completion of the term of service of 1,000 hours, the fellow will receive the Castulo De La Rocha Award in the amount of $2,500 (taxable).

    1. Assists with various administrative tasks to ensure the coordination and completion of all segments of the assigned project
    2. Complete the project timeline (if applicable) ensuring management reviews and approves it.
    3. Conducts research and gathers data for reports and presentations.
    4. Compile and consolidate reports and prepare presentation based on findings or outcomes.
    5. Work closely with assigned staff and varying levels of management.
    6. Maintain cooperation and participation with key people involved in the project.
    7. Perform other relevant duties as assigned.


    1. Bachelor’s degree may be required
    2. Currently attending last year of 4 year college
    3. Intention to apply to medical school demonstrated by pre-medical coursework preferred.
